Day 1: London to Lucerne
We leave St Pancras International by Eurostar for Paris then on to Lucerne, via Basel, for a five night stay at the Hotel Seeburg.
Day 2: Interlaken
Our excursion today is by rail to Interlaken, gateway to the spectacular Bernese Oberland and nestling in a picturesque setting between Lakes Thun and Brienz at the foot of the famous towering peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and the Jungfrau. The Höheweg promenade, lined with chic boutiques, elegant hotels and cafés, has wonderful views of the Jungfrau Mountain, particularly from the city park. As a Swiss Travel Pass is included in the holiday, why not take the opportunity to explore further afield? The picturepostcard ski resorts of Grindelwald and Wengen are delightful at this time of the year and ideal for people-watching from pavement cafés or mountain walking to admire the panoramic views.
Day 3: Glacier Express
We embark on an excursion today aboard the world-famous Glacier Express. The journey traverses richly varied landscapes, from snow-capped mountains to rushing Alpine streams, peaceful meadows and dramatic passes. Lunch can be taken on board the train as we head through Brig and Chur before returning to Lucerne at the end of a memorable day.
Day 4: Zürich and Bern
Today our excursion by rail takes us first to Zürich. By international standards, Zürich is a small town, yet it is the largest city in Switzerland with excellent shopping, museums and fine architecture, particularly in the Old Town area. After free time for independent exploration and lunch, we take the train to Bern, Switzerland's picturesque capital, which is perched above a bend in the River Aare. Bern has managed to retain its medieval air, with its many fountains, sandstone facades, narrow streets and historic towers. Thanks to the arcades which extend throughout the town, shopping is a delight, whatever the weather, and there are wonderful views from the cathedral tower.
Day 5: Free time in Lucerne
Spend today at leisure in Lucerne, a delightful town, thanks to its attractive lakeside setting, beautiful historic buildings and variety of shops. Why not visit the Chapel Bridge - the oldest preserved wooden bridge in Europe, the famous Lion Monument or the Swiss Museum of Transport? Alternatively, your Swiss Travel Pass is valid today, offering a 50% reduction on all trains, boats, buses and mountain railways.
Day 6: Lucerne to London
We travel by train from Lucerne via Basel to Paris and onward by Eurostar to St Pancras International.
