Day 1: London to Brussels
We leave St Pancras International by Eurostar on a late-morning departure bound for Brussels, where we overnight at the 4* Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Day 2: Brussels to Hahnenklee
We set off this morning on the service over the border into Germany, travelling via Cologne and Hanover to Goslar. At Goslar we are picked up and transferred to our hotel in Hahnenklee, the 3* superior Ramada Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, set in the snow-capped Harz Mountains surrounded by lush forests of spruce. Day 3: Goslar
Today we embark upon an excursion to Goslar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with many historic buildings, majestic churches and a charming Christmas Market. The Kaiserpfalz Imperial Palace, the oldest surviving Romanesque palace in Germany, is certainly worth a visit, as is the gothic Town Hall, which dominates the Market Square. Goslar’s Christmas Market also remains open for the days following Christmas and is still well worth a visit. (B,D)
Day 4: The Harz Railway
Today we enjoy a day trip on the narrow-gauge Harz Railway, which carries us past dramatic mountain ranges and through wooded valleys on a journey into the heart of the spectacular Harz area. We travel by coach to Wernigerode, a charming town complete with Gothic castle, where we pick up the vintage train which steams through the Harz National Park to Eisfelder Talmühle. (B,D)
Day 5: New Year's Eve
You are free to explore Hahnenklee on New Year’s Eve.Why not use your included ticket for a trip into the mountains by cable car for superb views over the surrounding area? Organised by the hotel, the ticket also includes a warming glass of punch on your return. This evening we enjoy a gala dinner with live music, dancing and a midnight snack. (B,D)
Day 6: New Year’s Day free in Hahnenklee
New Year’s Day is at leisure to relax and enjoy the hotel's facilities, or further explore the outstanding scenery of the area. For those rising late, the hotel provides brunch. (B,D)
Day 7: Homeward bound
We are picked up from our hotel and transferred to Goslar, where we catch our onward service via Cologne and Hanover to Brussels.We change here to the Eurostar which whisks us back to St Pancras International. (B)
