Day 1: London to Montreux
We leave St Pancras International on a Eurostar service heading to Paris, before continuing on to Montreux travelling along the shores of Lake Geneva.We stay at the 3* Hotel Helvétie, located in the centre of Montreux, for our six night stay. (D)
Day 2: Châteaux de Chillon
This morning we enjoy an excursion to one of Switzerland's most beautiful attractions, the Château de Chillon. Built on a rock, the castle rises dramatically out of the waters of Lake Geneva and sits against a backdrop of breathtaking mountain scenery.We enjoy a fascinating guided tour of the 13th century château, considered to be one of Europe's best preserved medieval castles and a fine example of early Gothic architecture.Your afternoon is then free to explore lively Montreux at your leisure, perhaps wander along the lakefront promenade which is home to the town’s Christmas Market at this time of year. Day 3: Rochers de Naye on Christmas Eve
Today we take a fabulous journey into the mountains by cog railway to Rochers de Naye, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful viewpoints. This evening we enjoy a special Christmas Eve dinner in the hotel, and later there will be opportunity to attend midnight mass. (B,D)
Day 4: Relax in Montreux on Christmas Day
The town of Montreux nestles in a sheltered Lake Geneva bay, surrounded by vineyards and the breathtaking backdrop of the snow-covered Alps. Due to the exceptionally mild climate Montreux is called the capital of the Vaud Riviera. Plants associated with the Mediterranean, such as pines,cypresses and palm trees grow here. Charlie Chaplin, Freddie Mercury and several other famous people of world-renown lived and continue to live on the Vaud Riviera. The long lake promenade, which links Vevey and Montreux is a delight to stroll along. This evening, enjoy a special Christmas dinner in our hotel. (B,D)
Day 5: The GoldenPass Line to Interlaken
We travel to Interlaken today along the famous GoldenPass Railway Line. Our journey takes us through the Gruyères Valley and Gstaad, via Zweisimmen, and then descends towards Lake Thun and Interlaken.We later return via Bern, Switzerland’s picturesque capital, where we stop for a short time before continuing to Montreux. (B)
Day 6: A day at leisure
Relax in Montreux, or you may decide to go on one of the many excursion opportunities available from our superbly connected base.Why not journey to Martigny, from where you can join the Mont Blanc Express which winds its way through the mountains to Chamonix? (B)
Day 7: Montreux to London
We travel by train from Montreux to Paris, via Lausanne or Geneva. In Paris, we connect to our Eurostar service to St Pancras International. (B)
Your hotel
The 3* Hotel Helvétie is located in the heart of Montreux, opposite the Casino and a short distance from the lake. It is an excellent base from which to explore the area. The hotel has a lounge, bar, restaurant and lift. All rooms feature a television, telephone and safe.
