Prague & Berlin Christmas Markets 2010


Day 1: London to Würzburg
We travel from St Pancras International to Brussels on a morning Eurostar service. Our journey continues via Cologne to Würzburg, where we overnight at the Hotel Amberger. (D)

Day 2:To Prague
Today we continue by train to Prague, arriving in the capital of the Czech Republic in the afternoon. After checking in to the 3* Hotel Chopin we have some time to explore this fine city. This evening we enjoy dinner in a traditional Czech tavern. (B,D)

Day 3: Guided sightseeing in Prague
We start the day with a guided sightseeing tour of historic Prague. Marvel at one of Europe’s most unspolit cities, with the stunning Old Town Square and the famous astronomical clock, Charles Bridge and Prague Castle. (B)

Day 4: Prague Christmas Markets
Today we are free to enjoy a day exploring Prague’s Christmas Markets. A great place to start is the Old Town Square, with its wooden stalls huddled around the Jan Hus monument, or Wenceslas Square, Prague’s grand boulevard. Smaller markets are held at Havel Market and Republic Square.Warm a crisp winter’s day with svarák mulled wine and return to the Old Town Square after darkness falls to witness the impressive Christmas tree lights amidst the square’s Gothic and Baroque splendour. (B)

Day 5: Prague to Berlin
Today we travel northwards through Bohemia, into Germany and along the Elbe Valley, a scenic landscape of crags and table mountains dubbed ‘Saxon Switzerland’. On our arrival in Berlin we enjoy a guided sightseeing tour which takes in impressive Imperial buildings and the sights of the former East Berlin. Our hotel for two nights is the 4* Park Inn, situated on Alexanderplatz and in walking distance of such famous sights as the Television Tower and Unter den Linden Avenue. (B,D)

Day 6: Berlin’s Christmas Markets
Today we have a free day to explore festive Berlin’s Varied Christmas Markets. There are several to choose from, including the market at the Opera House on the Unter den Linden Avenue, another at Gendarmenmarkt, arguably the city’s most attractive square, and further markets at Alexanderplatz, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and around the Town Hall. (B)

Day 7: Berlin to London
This morning we depart Berlin, heading westwards through Germany to Cologne, where we change for Brussels. Here we join the connecting Eurostar service to St Pancras International. (B)


Your hotels
In Prague we stay at the 3* Hotel Chopin. Its city centre location, close to Wenceslas Square, makes it a perfect base from where to explore Prague’s Christmas Markets. The modern and well appointed rooms are all fitted with air-conditioning, television, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities.

In Berlin we stay at the centrally located 4*Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz. The modern rooms are fitted with air-conditioning, satellite television, telephone, minibar and safe. The hotel features three restaurants and two atmospheric bars. The leisure facilities include a sauna and a gym.
