Elegant Vienna, Prague & historic Berlin


Days 1-2: London to Vienna by sleeper
We leave St Pancras International early afternoon by Eurostar for Brussels, travelling onwards to Cologne, where we join the CityNightLine sleeper service to Vienna.We arrive in the Austrian capital on the morning of Day 2 and enjoy a guided coach tour of this magnificent city. The rest of the day is free to further explore Vienna. (Day 2-D)

Day 3: Schönbrunn Palace
Today’s optional excursion is a visit to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, designed to rival Versailles. Set in hundreds of acres of beautiful gardens, the elegant palace with 1,441 rooms is one of Vienna’s architectural highlights. (B)

Day 4: To Prague
This morning we travel to Prague by rail, arriving mid-afternoon. The rest of our day is free to explore this fine city. (B,D)

Day 5: Prague
This morning we enjoy a guided tour of Prague’s main sights, such as the Castle district, Old Town Square and Charles Bridge. Our optional afternoon cruise along the River Vlatva offers a different perspective on the city’s attractions. Relax on board as coffee and cake are served. (B)

Day 6: Konopiste Chateau
Our optional excursion today is to Konopiste Chateau, the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Constructed in the 13th century, the castle now boasts a fascinating collection of weapons and hunting trophies. After visiting the castle, we enjoy a guided tour of a traditional Czech brewery. (B)

Days 7-8: Berlin
Our high-speed train to Berlin travels along the scenic valley of the Elbe and through an area of rocky gorges known as ‘Saxon Switzerland’. We arrive in Berlin mid-afternoon, where we are treated to a guided tour of the German capital. Day 8 is free for us to explore Berlin at our leisure, perhaps visiting the famous Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, or the Checkpoint Charlie Museum with its fascinating history of the Berlin Wall. (Day 7-B,D; Day 8-B)

Day 9: Potsdam
Today’s optional excursion is a coach trip to Potsdam, a former seat of the Prussian and German monarchs, famed for its majestic palaces. The splendid ‘Sanssouci’ palace is ‘must see’. (B,D)

Day 10: Berlin to London
We depart Berlin by ICE to Cologne, then onwards to Brussels, where we catch the Eurostar service to St Pancras International in London. (B)

 

Your hotels
In Vienna we stay at the 3* Senator Hotel. Located within easy reach of the main sights, the hotel has a bar and restaurant and all rooms are en suite with telephone, cable television and hairdryer.

Our base in Prague is the 4* Diplomat Hotel. The hotel has three restaurants and a wellness area. Rooms are en suite and have air conditioning, television, telephone and hairdryer.

The 3* Superior Mark Hotel Berlin is situated just off the Ku’Damm, Berlin’s main shopping street. The hotel has a bar and restaurant and the en suite rooms are equipped with air conditioning, television, telephone and hairdryer.
