Day 1: London to Turin
We travel on a morning Eurostar from St Pancras International to Paris, then onward by TGV to Turin for an overnight stay at the 3* Hotel Dock Milano. (D)
Day 2: On to Lake Garda
We leave Turin, travelling through the bustling city of Milan, bound for the tranquil shores of Lake Garda. Upon arrival we transfer by coach to our home for the next five nights, the comfortable 3* Hotel Mavino in Sirmione. (B,D)
Day 3: Lake Garda cruise
Today we enjoy a peaceful cruise around the lake, sailing past pretty villages and beautiful scenery. We can catch glimpses of villas and gardens hidden from view, and admire whitewashed houses set against a backdrop of pine-clad hills. The boat takes us to the delightful resort of Garda, with its lively bay area and numerous shops and cafés. (B,D)
Day 4: Free day in Sirmione
Today is free for you to explore the winding lanes of historic Sirmione, or take a walk out along the lakefront promontory with beautiful views over the turquoise water. The town is dominated by the 13th century Rocca Scaligera castle, offering dramatic views of the mountains from the ramparts. (B)
Day 5: Venice
Today we travel to spectacular Venice, the unique floating city unrivalled anywhere in the world. We enjoy a guided walking tour this morning of the main sights, including the stunning Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Basilica, the evocative Bridge of Sighs and the impressive Grand Canal, which is lined with stately mansions and ostentatious palaces. This afternoon is free to simply wander through the narrow, winding streets and lose yourself in the labyrinth of alleyways making up the heart of the city, or maybe take the opportunity to climb the Campanile de San Marco, which offers incredible views of the city and the shimmering lagoons. Day 6: A day at leisure
Today is free for you to spend at your own pace, either relaxing in Sirmione or exploring one of the other lakeside resorts. Alternatively, why not take the opportunity to see Verona, the legendary setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet? Visit the incredibly well-preserved Roman Arena, or take a stroll through the beautiful medieval streets and ancient piazzas which make up the town centre. (B)
Day 7: To Mulhouse
We leave Lake Garda by rail this morning bound for Milan. We join our onward service travelling via the Gotthard Pass, through the beautiful mountainous landscape of Switzerland and over the border into France, where we spend the night in Mulhouse at the 3* Mercure Mulhouse Centre. (B,D)
Day 8: Mulhouse to London
We depart Mulhouse by train for Paris, then catch the Eurostar to St Pancras International. (B)
Your hotel
The 3* Hotel Mavino is located in the heart of Sirmione’s old town centre, close to the castle and thermal spa, with shops and restaurants all within easy walking distance. En suite rooms have air conditioning, a hairdryer, telephone, television, safe, mini bar and internet access (payable locally). Some rooms have a lake view.
