The Glacier Express & Swiss Highlights


Day 1: London to Dijon
We leave St Pancras International in the early afternoon by Eurostar for Paris and continue on to Dijon, where we stay overnight in the Hotel Kyriad. This evening, we dine together in the hotel. (D)

Day 2: Lucerne & lake cruise
We continue our journey this morning to the beautiful lakeside city of Lucerne, arriving during the early afternoon at the 4* Grand Hotel Europe. This afternoon we embark on a cruise across lovely Lake Lucerne enjoying stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We dine together in the hotel. (B,D)

Day 3: Interlaken
Our included excursion today is by rail to Interlaken, the gateway to the spectacular Bernese Oberland. The town is nestled in a picturesque setting between Lakes Thun and Brienz at the foot of the famous towering peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and the Jungfrau. A Swiss Travel Pass is included today giving you the opportunity to explore further afield. The picture postcard mountain villages of Grindelwald and Wengen offer breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains. Another option is to climb to Europe’s highest railway station on the Jungfrau Express railway (supplement payable). (B,D)

Day 4: Glacier Express
We depart this morning on our included excursion aboard the famous Glacier Express. Our journey traverses varied landscapes, from sunny valleys to rushing mountain streams, peaceful meadows and dramatic passes. Lunch can be taken on board the train as we head through Brig and Chur before returning to Lucerne for dinner. (B,D)

Day 5: William Tell Express Line
Today our included excursion by rail is along the fabulous scenic line of the William Tell Express. We leave Lucerne and skirt the lake before climbing into the mountains on the Gotthard Pass. We travel through horseshoe tunnels and across bridges towards Ticino, in the Italian speaking area of Switzerland. The landscape is stunning as we descend towards Lugano wonderfully located on the shores of the lake which bears its name. You have free time here for lunch, and to explore the piazzas or stroll along the lake’s edge before we return to Lucerne for dinner together. (B,D)

Day 6: Free day in Lucerne
Spend today at leisure in Lucerne, a delightful town, thanks to its attractive lakeside setting, beautiful historic buildings and variety of shops. Alternatively you could join our optional excursion ascending Mount Rigi on Europe’s oldest cogwheel railway. For dinner this evening, you may wish to visit the Stadtkeller for an evening of traditional Swiss music and food. (B)

Day 7: Lucerne to London
We travel by train from Lucerne via Basel to Paris and onwards by Eurostar to St Pancras International. (B)

 

Your hotel
The 4* Grand Hotel Europe in Lucerne is a short walk from the Old Town. The 19th century building features antiques, tapestries and stained glass details as well as a terrace bar overlooking the lake. The hotel’s restaurant, Bellevue, serves food from around the world. Rooms are equipped with a television, telephone, safe and hairdryer.
