Nice and the dazzling Côte d'Azur (4* Hotel Nice Riviera)

Nice and the dazzling Côte d'Azur (4* Hotel Nice Riviera)

Day 1: London to Nice
We travel on a morning Eurostar service from St Pancras International to Paris, where we change onto our onward TGV to Nice. Here you check in to your hotel, the 4* Hotel Riviera. This evening we dine together in a local restaurant. (D)

Day 2: Exploring Nice
This morning we enjoy a guided tour of the beautiful city of Nice, including the superb Russian cathedral and the port area, where sleek yachts jostle for position with multi-coloured fishing boats. We travel up to Castel Park, set on a cliff-top with amazing views over the stunning coastline and sparkling sea, and finish in the Old Town, a delightful jumble of narrow alleyways, twisting lanes and small squares. Your afternoon is free to relax, or maybe take a stroll by the sea along the Promenade des Anglais. (B)

Day 3: Day at leisure
Why not join our optional excursion by coach to St Paul-de-Vence? This medieval village, perched high on a rocky outcrop, is well worth a visit, not only for its spectacular views of the sea and surrounding countryside, but also for its maze of narrow cobbled streets and beautiful gardens. (B)

Day 4: Villefranche-sur-Mer
We travel by rail to Villefranche-sur-Mer. Take a stroll through the winding streets around the harbour, or have a paddle in the warm waters of the bay. The Old Town stretches up a steep terraced hill, topped by the Fort of Mont Alban which looks over the red roofs below. We have time for lunch at one of the cafés overlooking the water, before returning to Nice early afternoon. (B)

Day 5: Free day
Today, why don’t you take the chance to explore the resorts, towns and villages of the French Riviera? Two attractive and popular destinations, both easily reached by rail from Nice, are Cannes, renowned for attracting the rich and famous, and Antibes, with its pretty harbour, marketplace, and Château Grimaldi, an impressive fortress which houses some of Picasso’s most vivid works. (B)

Day 6: Excursion to Monaco
Today we enjoy a trip by rail along the spectacular coastline to the tiny principality of Monaco. We are met by our guide at the station, who introduces us to the history and culture of Monaco as we explore the Old Town. After a visit to the splendid Place du Palais, where we see the changing of the guard and the cathedral, your time is your own. Why not stroll around the port with its exquisite yachts or visit the world-famous casino? This evening we dine together in Nice. (B,D)

Day 7: Nice to London
We depart Nice by TGV direct to Paris where we change to our Eurostar for St Pancras International. (B)
